It’s an important question because when it comes to grooming, especially for men – there isn’t always a lot of time for that. The last thing anyone wants is to spend every week fixing and rearranging their hair unit, so you don’t have to worry about it looking lop-sided or falling off in windy conditions. In the past, a lot of older movies and skits made fun of toupees, pointing out how easy it was for them to fall off in harsh winds, or at the tip of a hat. But times have changed.
How Long Do The Adhesives Last?
With the new, more improved adhesives, the worry of losing your hair is virtually eliminated. Hair systems are so strong, they can last for up to 6 weeks at a time. We do however, recommend removing every 3-4 weeks for a re-groom (clean) but this will vary depending on your lifestyle and also regards to natural oils, sweat, etc.. This means not having to worry about it coming off or moving for up to 6 weeks! With hair systems new and improved technology, you can swim in it, shower in it, sleep and workout in it, without the worry of it coming off. The adhesives are strong, but not so strong that you feel it. To reglue and refreshen it, a professional can have it re-glued in 20-30 minutes but if done at home, it may take longer.
What About the Hair Unit Itself?
The hair systems have improved through the years as well. You’ll want to be sure to choose a reputable company who uses high quality human hair. As well as a good mesh lining that provides a realistic, undetectable hairline with a skin tight fit. Utilizing a good quality glue, and a breathable hair unit, you will completely forget you’re wearing a topical hair system. You can purchase synthetic hair or real human hair for your unit. We do recommend real human hair, as that will always be the most realistic look. Depending on the options you choose, the care you provide and the lifestyle you live, every systems lifespan may be different.

Depending on how well they are cared for some clients have made them last even longer than 1 year. That is a lot longer than they were once known to last. Hair systems have continued to rise in popularity with how realistic and long lasting they’ve become.
Tips to Make Your Hair Systems Last Longer
- Be weary of harsh chemicals. Although your hair unit can be washed, chemicals like the ones listed here are damaging and stripping and can cause unnecessary breakage
- Don’t wash it excessively. The more tension you’re putting it through, the shorter the lifespan. If you need to wash your hair more often from sweating than it must be done, but if you can avoid it, do so. Ideally once or twice a week if you can.
- Don’t forget the conditioner. You want to treat this hair system like your own hair so condition it to keep it soft and smooth.
- Friction. Especially from your pillow at night, can cause a lot of tangling. To avoid this, use silk or satin pillow cases instead of cotton ones. If tangling occurs, comb the tangles out immediately and gently with a wide tooth comb.
Essentially, you’ll want to treat this hair system like your very own hair that you want to protect from heat damage, friction, prolonged sun exposure, harsh chemicals like chlorine, etc. All this will allow it to last longer and provide you with the lasting confidence you’ve been looking for!
